London Rising Tide
LONDON RISING TIDE (LRT)
takes creative action on the root causes of
climate chaos, and promotes socially just, ecological alternatives to
the fossil fuel madness that we're living through. It is part of the
wider Rising Tide UK network, and seeks to be part of a growing
European and worldwide movement of groups working to dismantle the
oil industry. (You can find out more about what we stand for here:
http://risingtide.org.uk/about/political)
London Rising Tide meets every Thursday night - more or less - at the
London Action Resource Centre (LARC), which is at 62 Fieldgate
Street, London E1, Whitechapel tube, on the corner of Fieldgate
Street and Parfett Street. We usually kick off at 7.30.
The last
Thursday of each month is set aside as a meeting to welcome new
people, so try to make that your first meeting if you can, so you can
get an introduction to the various issues and plans that we're
working on, and we can make absolutely sure there’s cake on the
table and tea in the pot.
There's plenty to do, including helping run the office, making
banners, doing talks & stalls, helping with actions, designing
websites & leaflets etc. Some people in the group stick with just one
of these tasks, while others work on several. We'd love to hear from
you, whether you've only got half an hour a fortnight to spare, or
entire days to put in.

Climate chaos is set to have a catastrophic effect on all of us,
while hitting the poorest hardest. Oil is a curse that also fuels
war, poverty and environmental destruction. Yet the companies most
responsible are profiting handsomely, and they are still welcome it
seems in many of our most prestigious public galleries and museums. Why?
Art Not Oil is an exhibition and a campaign, committed to showing
powerful political/ecological art, to seeing an end to oil
sponsorship of the arts, and to helping build movements for climate
justice both here and throughout the world. As well as work that
looks at the negative impacts of fossil fuels, we welcome work that
looks at positive alternatives and solutions.
Send us your art - turn
your visions, nightmares, anger and hope into creative resistance!
We had a great time last Friday , and left with a huge list of email addresses. Fantastic, power to you. It was a first for our party and our eyes were opened.
