Research: Music & Spirituality
-RESEARCH CLOSED-
My name is Diana Harris and I'm an educational researcher, mostly working for the Open University. I am also a PGCE (teachers' course for graduates) tutor in music. I am writing a book for Oxford University Press called 'Promoting spirituality in the music classroom'. The main reason for this book is because the National Curriculum says that spirituality should be 'taught' (I think this is the wrong word, personally) in all subjects in the curriculum and at the moment it is virtually non existent in music.
I am coming at this from the point of view of someone who believes that spirituality is very important but that it does not need to be tied to religion. Part of the book will be talking to people from all the major religions about the importance of music to them, but I also want to interview people who believe that music is important to them in a spiritual sense but who do not consider themselves to be followers of any religion. It's also really important for the pupils in our schools to have role models from inside and outside of religious groups.
If you are interested in the concept of spirituality and music, either as a listener or a performer, whether involved with a religion or not, and would be happy to talk to me about it then please do contact me at on 01289 309503 or 07967 480874. Thanks.'
