Club Culture and spirituality -RESEARCH CLOSED-
My name is Rupert Till, I am a musician, DJ and clubber who has performed at Synergy as well as at other associated events like Liquid, IDSPiral, Buddhafields, Boom and the Mellout with chill out band Chillage People. I have also been writing about and researching the subject of club culture and spirituality for 14 years as in my day job I am a lecturer in popular music and music technology at the University of Huddersfield in England. I am currently writing a chapter for a book on popular culture and religion, looking at the ways that club culture interacts with issues of meaning and spirituality. I would welcome your views, and have a short questionnaire that you could fill out, that will take about 15 minutes.
I am interested in peoples stories, theories, perspectives and ideas, and am aware that anyone looking at Synergy's web pages is likely to have an interesting perspective. I am interested in what it is about club culture that makes it particularly suitable for the exploration of spirituality and meaning. I am interesting in issues of trance, shamanism, meditiation, ecstatic experience, psychedelia, drug taking, the creation of sacred spaces, postmodernity, as well as repetition, Turing, iconogrpahy and sacred geometry. My work is influenced by and draws/reflects upon that of Suzi Gablik, Zygmunt Baumann, Gordon Lynch, Sarah Thornton, Rupert Sheldrake, Matthew Fox, Linda Woodhead, Gilbert Rouget, Graham St. John and many others.
Please email me at if you are willing to complete a questionaire or otherwise offer your opinions and I will send you the questionnaire to fill in. All information will be treated in strictest confidance.
